The Three Most Vulnerable Groups

As GoSafe seeks to reduce the number of people killed or seriously injured through enforcement and education. It is important that we identify and understand those people most at risk of a road traffic collision so that our resources can be used most effectively.

In line with the wishes of Edwina Hart MBE CStJ AM, Minister for Economy, Science and Transport, targets have been introduced to ensure continued focus.

Our proposed targets, compared to the average figures for Wales, between 2004-08 are:-

  • A 40% reduction in the total number of people killed and seriously injured on Welsh roads by 2020, meaning 562 fewer killed and seriously injured casualties.
  • A 25% reduction in the number of motorcyclists killed and seriously injured on Welsh roads by 2020, meaning 64 fewer motorcyclist killed and seriously injured casualties.
  • A 40% reduction in the number of young people (aged 16-24) killed and seriously injured on Welsh roads by 2020, meaning 139 fewer young people killed and seriously injured casualties.

GoSafe focuses on the following vulnerable groups which demonstrate the need for education.

  • Young Drivers and their passengers
  • Professional Drivers
  • Motorcyclists
